At RE:YOU, we believe creating a great hair serum isn’t just about discovering innovative ingredients - it’s about combining them in a formula that delivers visible results and feels just as beautiful on our scalps. After all, if a serum feels greasy, sticky, or weighs hair down, it’s unlikely to become a key part of your everyday routine.
When our scientists developed the RE:YOU Dual-Path Hair Revival Serum, we invested just as much care into the formulation as we did into our proprietary NOVOGRO™ technology. The result is a hormone-free, silicone-free, non-comedogenic serum designed to support healthier-looking hair. Lightweight, non-oily, fast-absorbing, and residue-free, it’s color-safe, suitable for all hair types, and effortless to incorporate into a daily routine - because exceptional ingredients deserve an equally thoughtful formulation.

A Lightweight Texture, Made to Leave No Greasy Residue
We treated texture as a core component of our formula’s overall performance. A well-designed hair serum should spread easily and absorb quickly without leaving the scalp or hair feeling greasy, oily, sticky, tacky, or heavy. A thick or residue-prone formula can weigh hair down, disrupt styling, attract dirt and excess buildup, and leave the scalp feeling coated or uncomfortable. It may also discourage consistent application - and because regular use is essential to achieving the intended results, an unpleasant texture can ultimately undermine real-world efficacy. Our goal was a lightweight, non-greasy serum that feels clean, breathable, and virtually undetectable after application.
Achieving that experience required careful optimization of the solvent system - the liquid phase of the formula that dissolves the active ingredients, supports their stability, and helps distribute them evenly across the scalp. Although active ingredients often receive the spotlight, the solvent system plays a critical role in how a serum dispenses, spreads, absorbs, dries, and feels. Think of it as the formula’s delivery vehicle: it must carry the active ingredients where they need to go while leaving minimal residue behind.

Perfecting the texture required extensive testing. Even minor adjustments to the solvent system could noticeably change how the serum spread, absorbed, dried, and felt on the scalp. The team evaluated hundreds of formulas, carefully balancing the effective delivery of the proprietary NOVOGRO™ molecules with a lightweight, fast-absorbing, and non-greasy feel.
“Getting the texture just right took a lot of trial and error. Ultimately, we wanted to create a serum that feels barely there. It needed to fit effortlessly into your routine - without leaving your hair oily, sticky, or weighed down.”
- Dr. Stella Cho, PhD. Scientist, Human Physiology, and Lead Formulator @ RE:YOU.
The final formula delivers a clean, residue-free finish that makes daily application feel simple and comfortable.

Solubility: Every Drop Should Be the Same
To deliver the best and most consistent results, the ingredient must first remain soluble within the formula.
Solubility refers to an ingredient's ability to dissolve and stay evenly distributed throughout a product. If an ingredient has poor solubility, it can separate, crystallize, or settle over time, leading to inconsistent performance. For a hair serum, every pump should deliver the same concentration of actives from the first application to the last.
During the development of the RE:YOU Dual-Path Hair Revival Serum, we evaluated numerous solvent systems to determine how to incorporate an effective concentration of NOVOGRO™ while maintaining a uniform formula. We also carefully balanced active loading with sensory performance, creating a serum that feels lightweight rather than greasy, sticky, or heavy.
“When you’re comparing hair serums, don’t focus only on how many botanical extracts, peptides, or other active ingredients appear on the label. What matters just as much is whether those ingredients are properly solubilized and evenly distributed throughout the formula.”
- explains Dr. Cho.
A long ingredient list may sound impressive, but it does not necessarily indicate a well-optimized formulation. When we examined several thick serums from other brands under a microscope, we observed substantial undissolved residue in some of the formulas.

Although visible particles can sometimes be part of an intentionally designed suspension, they may also indicate that certain ingredients are not fully dissolved or uniformly dispersed.
“You want the same balanced formula in every application. If certain ingredients settle or remain unevenly dispersed, what comes out with one pump may differ from what comes out with the next. ”
- adds Dr. Cho.
That’s why we paid so much attention to the solvent system. It allowed us to keep the NOVOGRO™ molecules fully incorporated while still creating a smooth, lightweight serum that feels comfortable enough to use every day.
Built for Stability and High Performance
Even a perfectly solubilized formula must remain stable over time. The last dropperful of serum should perform just as well on the last day of use as the first dropperful on the first day of use.
Traditional cosmetic stability testing typically monitors visible and measurable changes in the finished formula - such as color, odor, pH, texture, separation, and microbial quality - under different storage conditions. We included these essential evaluations, but went a step further by studying the NOVOGRO™ molecules themselves.
We confirmed that all NOVOGRO™ molecules (NOVOGRO™ 273, 623, and 624) remained stable throughout the serum’s shelf life. Additionally, the serum was subjected to months of accelerated stress testing at -4°F (-20°C) and 140°F (60°C) - conditions far more demanding than normal storage - to evaluate the long-term stability of both the active ingredients and the overall formulation.
Samples from each test condition were analyzed using our in-house cell-based efficacy assays* and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS)* to assess NOVOGRO™’s function and stability. In every case, NOVOGRO™ remained stable. These studies gave us confidence that NOVOGRO™ remains stable within the serum, ensuring consistent performance from the first drop to the last.
We also performed independent safety testing to evaluate our RE:YOU Dual-Path Hair Revival Serum with regular dermal use. We conducted a Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) - one of the most widely accepted clinical studies for assessing skin compatibility. In this study, the serum was applied repeatedly under controlled conditions to 60 healthy volunteers over several weeks to determine whether repeated exposure could cause irritation or trigger allergic sensitization. After each application, trained evaluators assessed the test sites using a standardized dermal scoring system (shown below), which grades skin reactions on a scale from 0 (no visible skin reaction) to 4+ (erythema and edema with vesiculation).

All participants had scores of 0 at every reading. This means no visible skin reaction was observed at any time during the study. No evidence of skin irritation or sensitization was found, and no adverse events were reported, supporting the serum's suitability for regular, everyday use.
Fragrance: The Finishing Touch
Fragrance can enhance the experience of using a hair serum, but it should never overpower it. We formulated our Dual-Path Hair Revival Serum with a naturally derived, non-synthetic fragrance at just 0.025% of the formula. The scent is intentionally light, clean, and sophisticated.
The fragrance is most noticeable during application, adding a brief sensorial touch to your routine before fading quickly. It won’t linger heavily in the hair or compete with your perfume, shampoo, conditioner, or styling products. The result is an understated scent designed to make daily application feel fresh and elevated - without following you throughout the day.
Thoughtfully Designed from Molecule to Formula
Developing an effective hair serum involves much more than identifying a promising active ingredient. It requires careful formulation, rigorous testing, and countless decisions that ensure the product performs consistently every time it is used.
From optimizing the solubility and stability of NOVOGRO™ to refining the texture, fragrance, and user experience, every aspect of RE:YOU was intentionally designed to make advanced science feel effortless. The result is a lightweight serum that fits seamlessly into your daily routine while delivering the consistency and quality that great formulation demands.
